About Us

So who are we? 

Ben and I met in June of 2014, just after I finished university. I had been studying Bioveterinary Science at Hartpury College (UWE). Ben was working for Santander in branch, after joining the graduate programme. 

Not to be too cheesy, but it was pretty much love at first sight. We moved in together after only 6 months, and have been inseperable ever since. 

We have been on many holidays together (list below) and shared 4 homes. We have 2 crazy dogs who I wouldn't change for the world (Ben might) and are surrounded by amazing families.Ben proposed in November 2021 (finally!) and we are looking forward to our wedding.

A bit about Ben

Ben studied Business Management and Spanish at the University of Surrey, graduating in 2012. He can speak fluent Spanish and is an amazing chef, cooking almost every night for us both - from scratch! 

Stemming from an upbringing where he travelled in his younger years, Ben is an avid explorer and has travelled most of South East Asia and lots of Europe. Travelling is definitely an excape from his very serious banking jobs! He was keen to take me to somewhere more exotic than Tenerife when we met! 

A bit about me(Becki)

I studied Bioveterinary Science at Hartpury College (UWE) and adore all animals. I grew up dancing and riding and pretty much begging for every pet I could (still waiting for Father Christmas to bring me a pony). 

I have not managed to travel in the same way as Ben, but I could give you a tour of Los Cristianos, Tenerife, or the Cornish coast no problem! I have always wanted to go further afield but didn't get around to it until I met Ben.


About the dogs - I couldn't not mention them could I?!

No they absolutely do not come travelling! We are very fortunate that they have an awesome Aunty Lou to go and stay wih when we are away! 

Gryffie is a Border Collie, born Sep 2015, and he is mad as a box of frogs. He was originally a Christmas present from Ben and joined us in our first home together. 

Freddie is a Cocker Spaniel, born Dec 2018, and he is the complete opposite. He was bred by my mum and I took him to Crufts at 10months old. 

They love each other to bits and keep us on our toes. But no, they're still not coming travelling.

Journey around Rwanda Trying to finalise a 10 day trip around a country the size of Wales is no mean feat, especially when booking a rental car is more challenging than the Mensa IQ test (another post on that later).  Here I will put a vague itinerary of what we are planning, and as I write them, link to each of the daily blogs. Nyungwe National Park and Journey to Kivu - 5th June

A simple breakfast of ham and cheese omelette at Chimpanzee lodge before we set off to Nyungwe visitor centre. The bed was a bit hard and there was occasional truck noise outside but otherwise it was a nice stay.   It’s around a 35 minute drive from the lodge back to Nyungwe visitor centre. You might see monkeys and birds just driving there. On    our arrival one cheeky L’Hoests monkey stole a banana skin out of a bin and even though it was chased off, dared to go up to the cafe and steal a small bunch of bananas from one of the guides.  Irebero trail  There are several different treks to choose from at Nyungwe varying in length, elevation and difficulty. I am extremely unfit so there was no way anything over 3 hours or moderate difficulty was going to cut it!  We opted for the irebero trail - meaning ‘viewpoint’ in Kinyarwanda. Journey to Gisakura and Kings Palace - 4th June

Driving in Rwanda  Firstly, they drive on the right, so make sure you’ve thought about that! Rules of the road are generally the same, traffic lights, stop signs etc.  Make sure you are looking in your mirrors A LOT. There are so many of the little scooters and they are a bit like a swarm of flies you are trying not to squash. In the city this was hard, but they got fewer as we drove further out.  There are police stationed regularly around the city, and there are a lot of speed cameras (photo to come). Everyone is fairly relaxed though and there’s no beeping other that to let someone know you’re there in case they haven’t seen you trying to overtake.  You will need to have your driving license and an international drivers permit. We were informed by Kingfisher that the police WILL pull us over at some point. Give them all the documents and answer any questions they have politely. They may check the car and your luggage.
